Honors Program

College of Science Upper Division Honors in Psychology: Qualified students are invited to participate in an Honors Track in the undergraduate psychology major program. Students may apply for and be admitted to the Honors Program after completion of 60 credit hours and prior to the completion of 105 hours. Students must have a grade point average of 3.2 overall and in psychology for all college-level coursework to be admitted to and to be retained in the honors track.

Students in the Honors Program will be expected to register for and participate in the Honors Seminar (PSY 4932) and Honors Thesis (PSY 4970). Students in the Honors Program are strongly encouraged to enroll for a Directed Independent Study as soon as they have identified a faculty member with whom to work. This should be done as early as possible, but no later than the start of the senior year. During the senior year, the student will register for Honors Seminar (PSY 4932, 3 credits) and 3 credit hours of Honors Thesis (PSY 4970, normally 1 credit taken one semester and 2 credits the other semester) and will complete a written Honors Thesis/Project.

Research Opportunities

The faculty of the Department of Psychology maintain a large number of research programs. Their research involves both graduate students and undergraduate students as collaborators and assistants. Research experience is highly recommended for students who are planning on graduate training in Psychology or in related fields. The department maintains a list of projects for which faculty have undergraduate research assistant positions available. Some of these positions may be eligible for course credit; interested students should contact project supervisors for additional information. The department list is updated regularly.
